South Shore Brew

Specialties
NOW OPEN South Shore Brew seeks to create a vibrant cafe experience that reflects, improves, and inspires the South Shore, Chicago. We’ll establish a neighborhood staple that brings residents together around high-quality coffee, tea, fresh smoothies, and a panini & pastry menu. We hire locally, providing job readiness training to our 17-24 year-old employees, sourcing our team through a variety of partnerships. We’ll host monthly events across varying topics with the goal to bring people to South Shore to celebrate the good the neighborhood offers Chicago. We honor those that came before us: Gwendolyn Brooks, Carol Ann Mosley Braun, Michelle Obama, Kanye West, Jabari Parker. To the people of South Shore, our promise to you is to carry the legacy of this great neighborhood forward. We proudly serve locally roasted coffee. We brew coffee + pride.

History
Established in 2019.

Opened February 2019. After realizing a dream of building something in our own neighborhood, we are excited to bring the South Side of Chicago a unique coffee experience! The building itself used to house the offices of Jesse Jackson Junior. Paying homage to the African American footprint that was here before us, we wanted to create a space for the community to gather and take pride in. We were blessed to be selected as one of the winners of Chicago’s Neighborhood Opportunity Fund grant in 2017. After some struggles and setbacks, we would like to welcome you all to South Shore Brew!

Jennifer B.

Business Owner

Jennifer and her husband Cory are a pair of career educators here in Chicago. Jennifer was a fifth grade teacher, and still works part-time as an instructional coach for first- and second-year teachers. Cory is currently the full-time program coordinator at the Black Cultural Center at DePaul University. Jennifer & Cory were inspired back in 2015 while working within the One Summer Chicago program. “I think from that point on, that was sort of the catalyst for saying this is the kind of work we want to do for the rest of our lives,” Jennifer said. We invite you all to South Shore Brew, where we brew coffee + pride.
